Cardamom CoveCardamom Cove Cinnamon Rolls
Soft, spiral buns with a warm cardamom-cinnamon swirl — the smell that drifts down the harbor every morning.

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar, plus 3/4 cup for the filling
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1/3 cup soft butter, plus 1/4 cup melted
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp milk (glaze)
Method
- 1.Stir warm milk, yeast, and 1/4 cup sugar; rest 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2.Mix in egg, soft butter, and flour to a soft dough; knead 8 minutes, then let rise 1 hour until doubled.
- 3.Roll into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, and scatter the sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom.
- 4.Roll up tightly, slice into 12, and nestle in a buttered pan. Rise 30 minutes.
- 5.Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22–25 minutes. Whisk the glaze and pour over while warm.
Briar HarborBriar Harbor Spiced Apple Cider Loaf
A tender, autumn-spiced loaf the club slices thin and passes around during the first chapter.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup apple cider, reduced to 1/2 cup
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp cinnamon + 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 grated apple
Method
- 1.Simmer cider until reduced by half; cool.
- 2.Cream butter and brown sugar; beat in eggs, then reduced cider.
- 3.Fold in flour, baking soda, spices, and the grated apple.
- 4.Pour into a lined loaf pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45–50 minutes.

Three-ingredient shortbread with a nutty brown-butter depth — made for one hand while the other holds a book.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, browned and re-solidified
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups flour
- Pinch of flaky salt
Method
- 1.Brown the butter until amber and nutty; chill until soft-solid again.
- 2.Beat with powdered sugar, then work in flour and salt to a crumbly dough.
- 3.Press into a lined pan, prick with a fork, and score into fingers.
- 4.Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 28–32 minutes until pale gold. Cut while warm.

Flaky, lightly spiced scones for a grey morning by the water, best with a strong pot of tea.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup pumpkin purée
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup cream
- 2 tsp pumpkin-pie spice
Method
- 1.Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and spice.
- 2.Cut in cold butter until pea-sized, then stir in pumpkin and cream to a shaggy dough.
- 3.Pat into a round, cut 8 wedges, and space on a lined tray.
- 4.Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 16–18 minutes until set and golden.

Chewy oat cookies finished with flaky salt — a little sweet, a little of the sea.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups oats
- 1 cup flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
Method
- 1.Cream butter and brown sugar; beat in the egg.
- 2.Stir in flour, oats, and baking soda to a soft dough.
- 3.Scoop onto a lined tray, flatten slightly, and top with flaky salt.
- 4.Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 11–13 minutes. Cool on the tray 5 minutes.
Emberwick CoveEdie's Mulled Cranberry Tea
A warm, ruby-red spiced tea from the town’s living memory — perfect for a late chapter by the fire.
Ingredients
- 3 cups strong black tea
- 1 cup cranberry juice
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 whole cloves
- 2 orange slices
Method
- 1.Combine everything in a small pot.
- 2.Warm gently over low heat 10–15 minutes; do not boil.
- 3.Strain into mugs and garnish with a fresh orange slice.
